Finish Hepatitis and AIDS info.
AIDS:
Spread: unprotected sexual contact, sharing needles, birth, blood to blood contact, breast feeding.
Symptoms: Flu-like: achy, tired, chronic illnesses.
Treatment: AZT, DDI, Protease Inhibitors.

Hepatitis:
Spread: A thru contaminated food and water. B thru blood and sexual contact.
Symptoms: Jaundice, achy, nausea
Treatment: Gamma Globulin shots, immune globulin shots. Time.

Mononucleosis:
Spread: thru saliva, kissing and sharing eating utensils.
Symptoms: tired, swollen lymph glands, sore throat.
Treatment: rest

Influenza:
Spread: airborne
Symptoms: achy tired, dry cough, fever
treatment: rest and fluids.

Turn-in Heart Disease and Cancer Research guides. (Assn #1) 20pts.

Causes of Heart Disease:

-High fat diet, smoking, heredity, not exercising, stress,
-High fat diet: High blood cholesterol must go somewhere; either fat banks or arteries.
-Heredity: How fat reacts in a persons body is largely determined by genetics.
-Lack of Exercise: Not burning fat or strengthening Heart.
-Smoking: Sticky arterial walls. Narrows arteries, raises blood cholesterol.
-Stress

Treatments:
1. Angioplasty: balloon in blocked artery and inflated to open artery.
2. By-pass surgery: Going around the blockage with a blood vessel taken out of the leg.
3. Medication and drugs to dissolve the clot.
4. Heart transplant
5. Pacemakers.

Cancer:
Causes:
Exposure to Sun, tobacco, high fat diet, radiation, chemicals/materials such as pesticides and asbestos, heredity, stress.

Treatment:
1. Chemotherapy: drugs used to kill cancer cells.
2.radiation: x-rays used to stop and or kill cancer cells.
3.surgery: remove the cancer before it spreads.
